Ever since the Federal Minister of Economics, Robert Habeck, announced the early warning level of the gas emergency plan on 30 March 2022, many citizens have become aware that security of supply in the Federal Republic of Germany is not self-evident.
Gas suppliers are constantly concerned to ensure this supply and to be prepared for cases of shortage of gas resources. Processes that were hardly used in Ukraine before the war or were irrelevant in the everyday life of utilities are becoming more and more important due to the new situation and increasing the pressure on efficiency. This includes the provision to be able to separate certain consumers from the gas network in the event of a crisis, if necessary.

Also in view of the current turning point, the first utilities have decided to gradually automate manual processes in bottleneck management gas and rely on the low-code platform X4 BPMS from SoftProject.
With the X4 BPMS, in a first step, load data from the current past, data from RLM meters (recording power measurement) are transmitted via an interface to the network control technology provided by large consumers and current weather data automatically to the crisis prevention tool Gas. Thus, this tool can calculate the calculation and display of possible switchable services in case of gas bottlenecks without manual and error-prone filling and thus relieve the dispatchers in the control center.
Outlook: In further steps, the complete replacement of the Excel solution Crisis Preparedness Gas by the digitization platform X4 BPMS is planned.
