What is the GDV ?

Many different parties are involved in the claims management process: insurers, lawyers, experts, and claims adjusters. To ensure smooth communication between all parties involved, a service is needed that guarantees secure, error-free data exchange. The basis for this digital claims service is a standardized, widely used interface that successfully reduces media breaks and meets the highest security requirements.

This digital exchange enables a secure, smooth process flow in the event of a claim. In 2021, more than 110 insurers and over 100 service providers have already exchanged approximately 24 million messages via a GDV .

What is the GDV ?

The GDV for "Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft" (German Insurance Association) and is an association of the German insurance industry. The GDV refers to the technical standard developed by the association to enable uniform and efficient processing of claims in the insurance industry. This standard contains rules and procedures for the transfer of data and information between insurance companies and customers. The GDV helps to simplify and accelerate the process of managing claims and losses in order to improve customer service and increase cost efficiency.

What is GDV ?

A GDV contains the most important information about an insurance contract. The GDV itself is standardized. This means that contract information can always be found in the same place, which is particularly important for the exchange of information between product providers and intermediaries. The GDV is updated at regular intervals, usually once a month, by the insurance company.

GDV is originally in the form of text files that are difficult to read. To display it in a simple and clear manner, insurance brokers often use a broker management program. This displays the current GDV for the respective customer.

A user-friendly overview is essential, especially for insurance brokers who serve a large number of customers and offer a variety of products. In addition, time savings and increased efficiency are achieved through fewer clicks for administrative tasks or consultations. For example, a contract overview can be quickly accessed or a change of address can be made with a single click.

Insured parties and stakeholders can communicate via this IT infrastructure, creating an ideal digital claims exchange. The claims service helps automate processes and speed up collaboration with all parties involved. For example:

What tasks does the GDV perform?

As an umbrella organization, the German Insurance Association (GDV) plays a central role in coordinating the representation of the interests of German insurance companies. The association acts as a platform for exchange among its member companies, the insurers. The GDV dialogue and cooperation to ensure a uniform approach to common challenges and goals in the insurance industry. Through this intensive exchange, specialist information on insurance, particularly in the area of property and life insurance, is shared, and data sets on claims and loss prevention measures are analyzed.

One of the association's key tasks is to represent the common interests of its members at national and international level. This involves working with political decision-makers to create a favorable legal framework and ensuring the overall stability and sustainability of the insurance market. In addition, the GDV acts GDV a point of contact for service providers in the insurance industry and promotes a cooperative environment within the industry network. Overall, the GDV plays a key role in the insurance landscape by facilitating exchange, providing valuable specialist information, and representing the interests of its diverse member companies and insurers.

How do I obtain GDV data records?

Insurers either make the GDV available for download or send it securely encrypted by email or on CD. Upon receipt, the GDV must first be decoded before it can be imported into the broker program. Since brokers usually work with 30-40 insurance companies, decoding and importing can be an extremely time-consuming process, especially if those responsible are less tech-savvy. In addition, the data records have to be updated regularly – an administrative process that is therefore often repeated. This wastes valuable time that could instead be spent advising customers or acquiring new ones.
Despite the high risk, many insurance brokers use broker pools to avoid the administrative burden. The optimal solution to this administrative dilemma:BiPRO 503 for claims service.

Automate GDV with X4 BPMS

Simplifying the diversity and complexity of claims processing in GDV
A simple glass repair often involves complex communication. Glass damage must be repaired by the workshop and paid for by the insurance company as quickly as possible—and with as little effort as possible for the vehicle owner.

Our customer supports independent repair shops and repair shop groups in handling glass damage claims with auto insurance companies. Its database contains around 40,000 different front, side, and rear windows, headlights, turn signals, and related accessories from various manufacturers. In addition, the data of the vehicle owner and their insurance company, the appraiser, and the repair shops must also be taken into account when processing claims. For efficient claims processing, all this information must be transferred online—including calculation checks and invoice settlement—across company and IT system boundaries.

The challenge is that different workshop networks and insurance companies do not use the same data transfer formats. In addition, calculation and billing data must be exchanged with some insurers in GDV and via the GDV.

To simplify online claims processing, a solution is needed that

OUR SOLUTION

Automated GDV via the X4 ESB

The X4 Enterprise Service Bus ESB) is used to ensure smooth electronic data exchange, transforming all data into the standard data exchange format of the German Insurance Association (GDV). The X4 ESB the heterogeneous data formats and different systems used by repair shops. For example, the data fields for first names, last names, and addresses of automotive customers are stored differently in each system. A wide variety of calculations and individual items for different repair items such as spare parts, accessories, and labor costs require an extremely individual and therefore complex data structure, especially for glass damage files.

All data generated in the course of processing glass damage claims is first ESB via the X4 ESB and converted into the GDV using a GDV so that it can be forwarded to the insurer via the GDV. It can then be further processed in the insurer's backend systems.

Our customer opted for a SaaS solution that only uses the data exchange service SoftProject in its data center. An interface was implemented for secure data transmission to the data center. There, the data is prepared for transmission in GDV and forwarded to the respective insurance company via the GDV(routing). Calculation and/or invoice data automatically goes through the necessary processing steps, and the responsible employees can start the data exchange with a click of the mouse.

In another subproject, the process was also implemented as so-called dark processing, meaning that glass damage repairs, including prior cost estimates, are now handled completely automatically without review by an insurance company employee.
